چکیده

Each cell of an organism contains an identical copy of the whole genome. However, different tissues have different functions, which means that each cell utilizes only a subset of its genes. The process in which the cell controls the activation of a subset of genes is called gene regulation. Gene regulation can occur at different time points along the gene expression process, including chromatin organization, transcription, premRNA processing, translation and post-translational modifications. Primarily it occurs at the transcriptional level. This lecture focuses on computational approaches to decipher transcriptional regulation.

Computational inference of transcriptional regulatory networks from expression profiling and transcription factor binding site identification.

We have developed a computational method for transcriptional regulatory network inference, CARRIE (Computational Ascertainment of Regu latory Relationships Inferred from Expression), which combines microarray and promoter sequence analysis. CARRIE uses sources of data to identify the transcription factors (TFs) that regulate gene expression changes in response to a stimulus and generates testab...

Computer modeling of promoter organization as a tool to study transcriptional coregulation.

Understanding how the regulation of gene networks is orchestrated is an important challenge for characterizing complex biological processes. Gene transcription is regulated in part by nuclear factors that recognize short DNA sequence motifs, called transcription factor binding sites, in most cases located upstream of the gene coding sequence in promoter and enhancer regions. Genes expressed in ...

Sequencing And Bioinformatics Analysis of the Partial Promoter Region of Κ-Casein (CSN3) Gene in Iranian Bacterianus and Dromedaries Camels

κ-casein is a glycosilated protein belonging to a family of phosphoproteins (αs1,β, αs2,κ) that represents the major protein component in mammalian milk. κ-casein plays an essential role in the case of micelle stabilization, determining the size and the specific biological function. In the present study, we report the characterization of the partial sequence of κ-casein promoter region in the I...

PlantPAN 2.0: an update of plant promoter analysis navigator for reconstructing transcriptional regulatory networks in plants

Transcription factors (TFs) are sequence-specific DNA-binding proteins acting as critical regulators of gene expression. The Plant Promoter Analysis Navigator (PlantPAN; http://PlantPAN2.itps.ncku.edu.tw) provides an informative resource for detecting transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs), corresponding TFs, and other important regulatory elements (CpG islands and tandem repeats) in a prom...
